Story / Meaning:

In 2019, my friends put together an art show in collaboration with a local film festival. It was based upon space movies. The one I chose was "Apollo 13".

The title, "Ex Luna, Scientia" is the motto of the the Apollo 13 mission. It means "from the Moon, knowledge". The woman is a personification of the feminine spirit of the moon. The "triple moon" symbol and 13-pointed stars represent the phases and cycles of the moon. She is surrounded by "moonflowers", a type of plant that blooms in the evening. In her hands she holds life-giving knowledge, in this case, the design of the CO² scrubber that saved the lives of the Apollo 13 crew.
