This sounds interesting! Thank you so much for sharing. It is a topic that I have pondered for some time now, trying to find a way out for us all...
On the one hand, things like manipulative advertising, the easy availability of credit/loans with high interest, etc. keep people trapped in a cycle of investing their resources on things that they do not actually need. Even when they aren't living paycheck to paycheck, many people commodify themselves or give in to the "constant hustle" culture to try to "scale up" their lifestyle with their income.
On the other hand, people also try to free up their own time by attempting to get other people to work for them in some manner. Couple these to the desire for endless expansion, the glorification of selfish hedonism, and a "surivial of the fittest"-type of competition, and we have a society where nearly everyone is trying to get one over on someone else to fulfill arbitrary wants instead of working together to remove the necessity of work altogether.
I repeat this often: Money is worthless, whereas natural resources that are managed properly can give us useful things continuously. Likewise, the creation of food, clothes, and shelter from these resources can be automated so that absolutely no one has to work anymore, just do a little bit of maintenance every now and then to keep the systems running smoothly. Everyone is finally free from toil!
Unfortunately, this is such a fundamentally different way of living, that some people have/continue to keep it from happening, including those who are in the best position to actually do something about it. It is clear that it is not a matter of technology, but one of ideology. These are two good examples...
• There is no great virtue in "work", especially if one is simply becoming more cunning in destroying. What are we working towards?
• "Throwing money" at a problem won't necessarily fix it. How are we accomplishing our goals?
Anyway, sorry to go on and on...
Thank you for your time. I value it.
