Making and Repairing Clothes and Shoes

Rough Outline

Clothes

+ Plants that are used for their fibers (organized by climate and with basic care instructions)

+ Making thread and yarn ("spinning")
+ Natural dyes (same approach to plants as above)

+ Weaving fabric with a regular loom
+ Sewing (incl. making and using patterns, how to use a treadle sewing machine, understanding the mechanics of a sewing machine, etc. )

Emphasize basic skills like: recognizing weave pattern of fabric, different types of stitches and why you would use them, how to seal holes/patch (incl. hemming and reinforcing with sashiko), size alterations/fitting (incl. smocking), simple decorative considerations (like embroidery), etc.

+ Using a Speedweve for quick repairs (e.g.: to darn a sock or to patch jeans)

+ Macrame
+ Crochet
+ Knitting

+ Recycling thread, yarn, fabric
+ Creating plant "leathers" and alternative materials

Shoes

+ Basic parts of a shoe (e.g.: upper, tongue, sole, etc.)
+ Making a shoe last from your own foot
+ Basic leatherworking (e.g.: for making traditional derby-style shoes, all by hand)
+ Repairing a sole
