Living Is Healing: Part 3 (02/17/2024)
[Important Note: This is NOT medical advice.]

The Association-Induction Hypothesis seems to highlight how important electrical phenomena are throughout the body, literally from the "atomic" level upward. I have always wondered what could be accomplished by using electricity for the purposes of healing, especially in combination with proper nutrition, exercise, and rest.

There is actually a rich history behind the concept of "Electrotherapy", though one might hear little about it nowadays. Some uses are quite common, such as Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (or "TENS machines") for the purposes of pain relief. There are also a few specialized applications, like electrical stimulation to speed up wound healing and stimulating the nervous system with non-invasive methods to treat psychological and neurological problems.

It is interesting to dive into some of the more obscure references. A few devices are theorized to operate by producing fields that are beneficial to the body in some way. To give a couple of examples:

Georges Lakhovsky's "Multiwave Oscillator" uses two antenna made up of a series of concentric rings to produce a broad spectrum of oscillating electric waves. As a person sits in-between the two antenna, they are bathed in these waves.

Gianni Dotto's "Thermionic Couple" has a copper ring that uses the "thermoelectric effect" to make one side cold and the other side hot. A person stands in the middle of the ring, and as it moves up and down, they are alternately exposed to extreme hot and cold, like jumping in the snow after sitting in a sauna.

Some have continued to study these devices and recreate them, but they are still hardly known.

Tomorrow, we will explore two more Electrotherapy researchers who took a different approach...
