This is actually a sequel to Mary's previous book, The Modern Pioneer Cookbook. This one goes much deeper into food preservation and creating what she calls a "four-corner pantry".
We can think of each "corner" as a form of storage where items are kept for progressively longer periods of time. The "main working pantry" contains items used on a daily or short-term basis, while the "extended prepper pantry" contains items stored for the long-term use in the event of an emergency. One regularly cycles through their contents, moving the things from long-term storage into short-term storage to keep items fresh, and replenishing them as needed. Certain foods may have to be stored in particular ways to maximize their freshness.
